Had Ag in the Classroom yesterday. OVer 75 first graders visited a ranch to learn about agriculture. There were all types of animals and people. It was a very rewarding experience.

It also opened my eyes as to how far away from food source even rural kids are getting. I held a picture of a chicken drumstick and asked where it came from? It was scary when one kid answered Safeway.

  1. For him that's probably where it DID come from ;) I heard this one; a bunch of kids were visiting a dairy and one came across a pile of milk bottles. He said "Look everybody, a cows nest". I know.....sick!

  2. Oh dear, that's disturbing. How can they ever appreciate it if they don't know where it comes from?

  3. Saw a post the other day (can't remember where or I would credit it) that said a teacher was asking school children the sounds animal make. When she got to pig, one kid yelled "freeze mutha f......s! Frightening indeed.
